MEET OUR SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

DR. JULIA MARTINEZ

Dr. Martinez

"My name is Dr. Julia Martinez, and I am honored and humbled to be the Principal at Golden Hill UTK-8. I was drawn to serve in this school because of the mission to create a learning environment where students, families, and the school collaborate to develop healthy, caring, responsible, lifelong learners. In addition, I am committed and inspired to support an enriched curriculum that emphasizes social emotional learning and a love for all students while supporting bilingualism, biliteracy and cultural competency.

I grew up in Southern California and attended the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). I began my career as a bilingual teacher in San Ysidro in 1997 and continued in Chula Vista where I taught in dual language immersion settings for 16 years. I earned my Masters in Policy Studies in Language and Cross-Cultural Education at San Diego State University as well as my Dual Language Biliteracy Certificate. Later, I earned my Administrative Credential at San Diego State and worked in various roles that included site and district resource teacher positions as well as an Associate Principal at San Diego Unified. These experiences in two-way dual language programs as well as my strong belief in immersion, led me to pursue my Doctor of Education in Leadership at UCSD where I focused my studies in Dual Language Education Programs.

Please know that I am available to engage in conversation and that my door is always open to you. I am committed to making school a place where each child is loved, nurtured and validated for who they are. In addition, I want to nurture curiosity and a love of learning in each child’s educational experience. I believe this is possible when we can work as partners to co-create this vision and mission together. I look forward to building relationships with the students, families and community here at Golden Hill."
