Mr. Law

Law

Lawrence, or “Law” as known by many, was born at a very young age. Law always wanted to become a superhero, but found out that his super power was not flying when he jumped out of his tree house and broke his ankle trying. However, he did realize that his true super power was to help people.

A San Diego local, Law received his BA in Mathematics Secondary Education from the University of California, San Diego and his MA in Counseling from the University of San Diego. Currently he is a middle school Math / Science teacher at Golden Hill K-8 in San Diego. Prior to GHK8, he taught high school physics and middle school math/ science in the High Tech High organization

Law also has had extensive experience outside of the classroom.  Most recently in 2018-2019, Law lived in Denmark and worked with the Kata Foundation to help develop and implement an initiative called “LEAPS” (Learning and Engagement through Authentic Projects in Science) which is modeled on Project-Based Learning.  Other endeavours outside of the classroom were Professional Learning & Outreach Coordinator for the HTH Graduate School of Education, and Director of Career Development and Community Outreach at HTH Media Arts.

Also outside of the classroom, Law was the coordinator of a youth development program, called "Friday Night Live", where he focused on promoting positive alternative activities away from alcohol, tobacco and drug use. He was also a coordinator for Friday Night Live Mentoring, where he trained and mentored high school students to become mentors for at-risk middle school students.

Law is also a volleyball coach as recently finished his 14th season as the head coach of the High Tech High girls varsity volleyball team. In addition to coaching volleyball, Law likes to play music and sing (in his church choir), rock climb and ride his bicycle. Law is also an avid traveler. The travel bug hit Law in the spring of 2009, when he visited Japan with 16 of his students. From then he has traveled to 34 countries and before the COVID-19 pandemic, he had a goal of travelling to 40 countries before he turned 40 #40before40. As travel opens up, Brazil and Southeast Asia are at the top of his list of places to write new stories about.
