The student drop-off zone is located on 33rd St. There is staff supervision and a Student Safety Patrol provided for their safety. The parking lot is blocked off to driving traffic from 8:45 - 9:15AM to minimize safety hazards for students arriving to school. Only school and district staff may have entry.

TK and Kindergarten: Parents may drop off students at their classrooms.

All students are encouraged to participate in Running Club from 8:45 - 9:05.

Grades 6-8 (Middle School): Students report to the Lunch Court to eat breakfast before going up to class. Class begins promptly at 8:55AM.

Safety Patrol
The school Safety Patrol was started in 1935 by the San Diego Police Department and began at just one school. Its purpose was to help elementary school children cross streets safely on their way to and from school and to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicycle collisions involving elementary-age students.

The School Safety Patrol is in nearly 90 schools throughout the city. There are nearly 2,000 fifth and sixth grade students serving as Patrol members. It is their job to cross children and adults safely at their school locations. They are selected, trained, and supervised on an ongoing basis by Juvenile Services Team Officers from eight area stations of the San Diego Police Department. Their jobs include:

  • Control pedestrian traffic

  • Control vehicle traffic

  • Watch and report traffic violations

School Safety Patrol members are rewarded for their work monthly, either through promotions or weekend activities. These can include:

  • Free holiday carnival
  • Outings to sporting events

  • Movies

  • Free 4-day camp at Palomar Mountain during the summer

To Join the Patrol

If you're in fifth or sixth grade and would like to become a member of the School Safety Patrol, ask your teacher.

For more information on the School Safety Patrol, go to the San Diego Police Department's website.

The San Diego Police Department requests that only students in grades four and above ride bicycles to school. Although the school has designated an area near the flag pole for students to park bicycles, the San Diego Unified School District is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of use to any bicycle, equipment or article left in or around this area. All such risk is assumed by the student.

All bicycles should have locks and licenses. Students are urged to secure their bicycles in an appropriate manner by using a quality lock and chain or other devices.

Helmets are required by California law. Students not wearing helmets may lose the privilege of parking a bike on school grounds. As defined in Vehicle Code Section 21212, any person under 18 years of age must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or when wearing in-line or roller skates. Helmets must also meet the standards of either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Students are dismissed promptly at 3:35 p.m. (1:15 p.m. on Wednesdays).

Student Pick Up

Please meet your child at the student pick-up area along 33rd Street. The front curb is painted green to indicate 15 minute stopping and white for 3 minute stopping. Signs are posted to assist you. Cars are not to enter the parking lot at any time between the hours of 3:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Please ensure the safety of all students by not parking in the bus loading area and/or asking your child(ren) to cross the street without a crossing guard present. The school's main concern is for the health and safety of your children.

Specific dismissal procedures vary by grade level, as indicated below:

TK/Kindergarten: Families (including older siblings) pick up students from the classroom.
Grades 1-5: Teachers walk all students to the lunch court upon dismissal.
Grades 6-8: Teachers dismiss students from the classroom and they are to leave campus via the back gate. If they are responsible for a younger student, they will go to the lunch court to pick them up.
PrimeTime Extended Day Program Students: All PrimeTime and licensed day care program students are dismissed from their classrooms and sent to the Multi-Purpose Room for check in
Bus Students: All buses park in the loading/unloading zone along 33rd Street. All bus students and space-available riders will walk out with their class or line up at the loading zone to board the bus.

If you are more than 10 minutes late to pick up a student, please go to the front office. You may be asked to provide identification. Please review the Visitors Policy page for additional information.
